This pipe would be the same thing required for any form of priviledge
separatiom, right?  If yes, then I think it's a godo thing to consider
anyway, and maybe this feature is only available when starting as a
daemon.

IIRC, xinetd provides features similar to login delay at the start of a
connection anyway.
