Yes, in the past we were putting regular snapshots(by snapshots, I meant
already configure/autoconfiscated and ready to go) of our current CVS on
alpha.gnu.org.
They ususally are named with letter postfix "0.1a", "0.1b" etc ..
For example, Jim M. is doing this for the core tools.

The downside with packages on alpha.gnu.org is that they are done manually,
i.e. human interventions ...recipe for failures 8-)

The alpha snaphots permitted folks not having the proper tools to test
and play with the new snapshots, sending PR/patches for build "0.1a" etc ..

They are many reasons why some folks can not upgrade or downgrade to
the current tools needed by mailutils

So you proposition, is a step in the right direction. Many
bugs are fixed in CVS but not way for people to get at it since we
do not have "betas", snapshots(on alpha) etc ..

The burden should not be on them to get the right tools but rather
on us to make the code more easily available.

On this ... I'm back to work on Java 8-)
