timeouts, select, dispatch

Guess what, I've another question :-)

Is there any provision to integrate mailutils in a main loop where
other file descriptor should be listened to, or at least is it
possible to define read timeouts ? I've looked into the stream.c and
tcp.c, but found no clue as what to do...
