naked period in display name

When running an address through the examples/addr program it rejects:

        John Q. Public <address@hidden>

presumably because the '.' is not an atom.  However rfc2822 says this
is a common situation and although it shouldn't be generated it should 
be
accepted.

Is there a flag I can throw in mailutils to allow unquoted display names
containing "."?
