I understand that, but the RSA's license is not compatible with either
GPL or LGPL.

That's just what I wanted to say: there exists a public-domain
version of md5. It would be much better to use it instead. Just
in case, here's the snippet from its  header:

 * This code implements the MD5 message-digest algorithm.
 * The algorithm is due to Ron Rivest.  This code was
 * written by Colin Plumb in 1993, no copyright is claimed.
 * This code is in the public domain; do with it what you wish.
 *
