I vote for upgrading too. There are many pro's for using the
newer versions of autotools: 1) the need for acconfig.h is eliminated,
so all the changes go directly to configure.ac; 2) they already
contain lots of macros which we had to invent ourselves (e.g.
m4/tm_.* would not be needed anymore); 3) better support for
testsuites; etc..
