Yes, there was a bug fixed at Feb 22-23 which caused mail to behave in
a manner similar to what you describe. The CVS repository is
at subversions.gnu.org and it allows public access via pserver.
You will find the instructions on how to check out sources from
the repository in file README-alpha.
