I'm not sure if that is of any help.  But configure has the machinery
to mangle the name of the programs.
  --program-prefix=PREFIX prepend PREFIX to installed program names
  --program-suffix=SUFFIX append SUFFIX to installed program names
./configure --program-prefix=g
