expects an integer size scaled by PANGO_SCALE, which is 1024. That is, we arelimited to a precision of 1/1024 points on the font size.
As I understand it from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_(typography), nowadays a point is fixed to 1/72 inch or 0.353 mm. That makes 1/1024 of that 0.3445 µm or 344.5 nm. That is approxiately the wavelength of violet light, or the early beginnings of ultra violet.
Are such differences even visible on paper or on a screen? I doubt it very much. But I am not a DTP expert.
