I've attached an image with green noteheads that shows spaces, staff lines,
and ledger lines (all at a setting of Overdone_heads = -0.2, which reduces
the metafont notehead size by 20% of the staff line thickness).

I believe the changes are so minute that they cannot be seen when the note
is on a staff line.  The symmetry of the note is unchanged; only its height
is adjusted.
