OK, I thought of one myself. If the two tied notes are part of one phrase
each, the phrases can have good reasons to have stems in different
directions, like
\relative c' {
c8 e g b c, e g b~ | b d f a
}
This I wouldn't like in any other way than how it is done now. Still I think
it could be worthwhile to let them be the same when one of them doesn't have
a strong reason for its preference.
