You also need to call the compiler with the CFLAGS CPPFLAGS and LDFLAGS because I get different results with gcc -m32 -print-multi-os-directory and gcc-m64 -print- multi-os-directory, as you would expect.
I do, however, agree that -print-search-dirs combined with -print- multi-os-directory seems to be the way to go. If you do not get around to it, I'll try to come up with a patch this weekend.
