So that I don't forget to investigate it... :-)
I've just got a report from Godmar Back <address@hidden> that,
apparently, the execute mode won't relink a libtool program when
needed, nor pass the relinked executable to gdb, when running:
% ./libtool --mode=execute gdb foo
This requires someone to break libtool's encapsulation to debug `foo'
when there are older installed versions of libtool libraries foo is
linked with, and LD_LIBRARY_PATH doesn't override -rpath.
