As it currently stand, syslogd in inetutils does not support log
rotation.

   I've got a patch implementing this feature for  an older version and 
   published (1st March 2012) on the mailing list, but never received a 
   reply. It works fine, but the configuration in syslog.conf may be not 
   conform to the standard (bad intuitive).

Sorry!  We must have missed it, could you repost it against a the
current repo?  It shouldn't be to much work, you can ignore coding
standards for now -- more important to look the patch.

Since I suspect that this is a non-trivial change, we would need an
copyright assignment from you (and employeer?).  Would you like to
sign such an agreement?

   Is there an interest for such a feature for syslogd or not?

I think it would be nice.
