But you are a member of the GNU Lib project, so you should posses more
knowledge than I do on matters of portability code building on GNU Lib,
which this problem really boils down to.

I have sent a previous reminder on this problem and also at that time
the only answer I got was to urge Guillem Jover to report this personally
to bug-gnulib, but I still maintain that you, Simon, are in the best
position to understand this situation quickly, with less work than I
would need. But, yes, sooner or later my curiosity would seduce me into
conducting an investigation of my own!
