if so, use guile 2.0 and support the language extension. this allows to
use other syntax, like M4 or even a cut-down JavaScript, if liked.

don't worry too much about this. there already exists lots of
incompatibilities (even = and <= are only common BSD extensions), and
your ** extension is breaking compatibility as well. a #* would have
worked, for example ;)
