Don't mislead people. I never disagreed on the testing for features
part. I disagree on the idea of combining everything in one file. I
disagree on the idea of #ifdefing large blocks of code which will
never be common.

Taking your analogy, ifconfig would have had all that formatting code
in one file separated by #ifdefs.
