Can you connect using other telnet clients?

Could you try out the latest tarball from:
http://daily.josefsson.org/inetutils/ ? If the problem persists,
please let us know how you were running the telnetd and any errors
that you got on the client side. You can also try out the different
debug levels for telnetd using the -D or --debug options.
