I argues most strongly against keeping autogenerated files in CVS,
iirc. Since I tend to use versions that are all over the place, it
means that it was constantly committing stupid changes that I
didn't want unless I took extra care.

I have stopped caring about the topic :-) But I'm still leaning
towards having autogenerated files in CVS. Right now all I want is
consitency, either we keep them, or we don't. But lets please not
keep some autogenerated files, and ignore others.

Any chance of autoreconf just picking it up? It was discussed when I
first started the gnulib project, but we thought the interface to it
wasn't going to be settled, so we didn't want to cause troubles for
   the rest of the autotools.

No idea, that is something that should be discussed with the autoconf
people. We could always just update autogen.sh to use bootstrap
instead of autoreconf. All I know is what Meyering told me that he
would try and get the bootstrap script into gnulib so that projects
wouldn't have to carry their own version of it.

Cheers.
