Okay cool.  I'll try to remember to hack on this then.  The reason is
that gnulib (which is the source for these) is moving to a model where
you can just run 'gnulibize' and it will auto update, and do the right
things to link itself in to your build.  So it will (theoretically)
remove most of the maintenance hassle from us and other maintainers.
