It was there for eons, I actually thought you did that, but the records
showed that it was introduce by Miles Bader.  Depending on configure run
the necessary files (getopt, telnet.h ftp.h etc ...) where linked
to include/*, so on can supply the missing bits.

But I do not remember having bad problems when srcdir != buildir
If you have a better grasp of the problem, solutions are welcome.
But I think I'm missing bits and pieces.
