Well, stesie did the PCMCIA implementation in a similar timeframe IIRC,
having no previous Hurd knowledge, and I'd say that the task is roughly
comparable? (I may be wrong of course.)

So I think it *is* possible -- at least for some people. The question is
whether it's possible for *him* :-)

When using glue code with foreign drivers, isn't the interface pretty
much fixed by that?...
