"Configuration file" is a Debian thing, not a GNU thing. You are
applying the Debian package management standards to something which
   is actually not Debian.

Dear me, why must you kick a dead horse? And kicking it in the wrong
place at that...

We do actually have "configuration files", you might wish to read the
GNU Coding Standards, which is as close as standards come in the GNU
project. The Debian package managment standards is something that I
am totally unfamiliar with. I applied what people call "common
logic"; configuration files are important so we shouldn't screw with
them. Even Roland seems to agree with that.

But I guess you aren't as nice as you used to be, and instead have
resorted to wasting your time on things that require no thought at
all. For example, your energy could have been spent on something
useful, like commenting Neal's and Ognyan's pager patch, or even
replying to my mail asking you if you are going to come to FOSDEM.
But I guess that these things require to much energy from a old gray
dragon like yourself...
