Okular and evince are able to scroll through the pages. Even when
jumping straight to e.g. page 5 and then going back. You can
see in okular when if calculates a page and when it shows the
cached content. Scrolling back from a page jumped to before
shows they are loaded/rendered, and that works fine.
No idea if that means the ps2ps code is correct or okular/evince
just have a better error handling...
If you can work with PDFs, you could try changing ps2ps to ps2pdf.
I guess I will just deploy okular instead of gv for previewing for
now. Somewhat slower, but...
