Hello Guilers,
In the 2.0 manual, probably in 1.8 and 1.6 also, in section 2.4 "Writing guile
extensions", the function "scm_num2dbl" is used in the code example. This
function was, as I could find out, deprecated in 1.4 and removed in 1.6.
Second, I would ask you to put back the 1.8 manual on
http://www.gnu.org/software/guile/docs/docs.html.
I can not upgrade to 2.0 at work, and would like to be able to quickly look
things up for 1.8 (and 1.6) if I need them.
Also I would ask you to also put back the link to the old guile tutorial,
before it was rewritten to use gnuplot.
http://www.gnu.org/software/guile/docs/guile-tut/tutorial.html
gnuplot is not a part of the gnu project, and it is not GPL. It's licence is
also bordering on non-free, since distribution of modified versions is not
permitted, modifications can only be distributed as separate patches.
I think that it is not OK for a core gnu project to rely on non-GNU, non-GPL
and borderline non-free software for a beginners tutorial, no matter how
convenient gnuplot might be.
The last point, Mike Gran has recently anounced on the dev list that he will
remove his "Guile book", which is currently linked on
http://www.gnu.org/software/guile/docs/docs.html
Could you please copy the book and make it available directly on the Guile
website, for future references?
I somehow have the feeling that more and more of the older (outdated) Guile
documentation is being removed from the web completely, and I think this is
bad, especially the removal of the old tutorial.
