Sorry to say that 1.16 (now I see that you are not referring to a 1.1.6
version) did not do anything differently.

I was able to get it to the point of compiling but not linking due to the
inability to find crtbegin_dynamic.o and crtend_android.o which both exist
in the lib directory that it could link against for everything else.
