This looks like you use an older version. Are you sure that you use the latest?

Yeah, I agree it looks that way; but it works perfectly on other machines. On a Dell PIII:

grub> root
(hd31): Filesystem type iso9660, using whole disk

grub> root (c<TAB>
grub> root (cd)
Filesystem type iso9660, using whole disk

All built from a CVS I checked out on 4/22. (After you added info into the manual on installing on CD ;-) )

As I said, I'd be willing to just strike this up to "This BIOS is
broken and has no El Torito support"---except that it *does* boot
CDs. I was unable to get it to work with floppy emulation (not
surprising), but it works with Slackware, which used:
mkisofs -R -J -V ... -hide-rr-moved -v -d -N -no-emul-boot \
-boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -sort isolinux/iso.sort \
-b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/isolinux.boot -p ... -P ... -A
... (I purposely left out the ...s).

Umm, which version of syslinux do you use for this isolinux?

I read this command from the Slackware 9.1 iso file; I haven't actually tried building an ISOLINUX boot disc myself. Slackware 9.1 uses ISOLINUX 2.06 (2003-08-22), but some older Slackware discs have also worked for me.
