Summary: Solution: apm=off in kernel line solves active hang
Version: .93
Type: software bug
Message:
I found while greping the internet someone told someone else to put apm=off in
the line
title Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-3)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-3 ro root=/dev/hda1 hdd=ide-scsi apm=off
this solves the problem of "hit enter on linux selection in grub -causes boot
to hang after apm:bios verison line.
Only side effect of this solution on my desktop seems to be that when I do
shutdown -h now : the computer doesnt power down any more. Now it just tells
me to
power down myself. After I take a nap :), I turn off the computer.
OK so what is going on here? I am happy, just curious as to the explanation. I
guess on my laptop this is not a problem, as I had no problem there.
Thanks
