There is indeed something strange between the menu and the command line
(I have experienced problems with that too; I will try to give it a
look... some day).

No. It can be hosted on any filesystem it is able to read, and if it
uses blocks description (more hairy actually) it can be hosted anywhere
(the problem being to retrieve the correct blocks informations).
