To duplicate:
$ grub
grub> password --md5

Password: *****
(core dumped)

Stock RH7.2 ... Appears to be a bad logic test for parameteres
from "where" in gdb but I don't have the symbols as this is on a
crappy machine with 1GB disk (voice mail server :-)
"password test" "password -test" are ok... "--md5" (command line
param) seems to hose things. Config is stock.

Cheers,
Fil

P.S. Any chances to add some way to have more control over the
screen during the boot process or when asking for password - I'm
dealing with computer-phobics here and a running log of partitions
being hidden and messages like that are only making them panic
"Is it a virus!?!?" No... DOS is a virus... and MSWindows is the
GUI to the virus... I'd like a command to clear the screen and
maybe a way to put text strings at X,Y on the screen. Not sure
how "doable" that is (at boot time). I will even settle for something
which will put some controller text in the middle of the booting
progress... Thanks a LOT!
