Do we want to guarantee that gnulib should be usable in all these
ways? In other words, would it be useful to set up an autobuilder
that automates testing of the 3 approaches, and fix whatever problems
that cause such an autobuilder to fail? Or do we ultimately only care
about 3)? Personally, I'm not sure.
