Hi James, sorry to hear you are having problems - it must be very frustrating.

Have you tried any other version? 
Have you tried this version on another PC?

You could try messing with compatibility mode settings

Or perhaps right-click and Run as Administrator

I can't help much, I'm afraid. I'm running Version GNU Backgammon 
1.06.001-mingw 32-Bit 20171216 on Windows 7 Pro, so it's a completey different 
environment.

After installation, select "settings/options".  Crash.  Happens every time on 
my Win10 system.   (Which I discovered --and find annoying-- because I prefer 
setting the match value to 21.)
