Hi Filipa,

I just tried www.random.org for dice generation. It worked correctly for me.

What version of gnubg do you have? Go to Help-->About gnubg-->Build Info to see.

Louis

Hi Louis,

thanks for your answer. I am using the same number generator as you.
My memory is not fooling me because I wrote the results in a paper for more than 100 games. I started to have this feeling some weeks ago and then started to write the results of who starts first. I will continue though :P

I do not suspect any cheating, I was just curious if it happens to anyone else.

Still related to the number generators, when I use random.org with seed 16000000 I only get numbers between 1 and 3 in both dice. Does this have an explanation?

Thanks again.

Hi,

If I recall, for a binomial distribution with n=100, p=.5 and q=.5, the standard deviation is sqrt(n*p*q) = 5. So having gnubg start first 80 times represents 6 standard deviations above the mean. The probability of this happening by chance is very, very small!

Maybe you were simply very, very unlucky. Or maybe your memory is fooling you.

For my dice generation, I use a random number generator (Mersenne Twister). I have no sense that gnubg wins the first roll more than I do, and I have played hundreds (maybe thousands) of games.
