Almost a third of 0ply's doubles are considered early and the ratio
(early doubles):(missed double takes) is 10:1. The cube action of 0ply
is still excellent though.

Perhaps all this is just a manifestation of gnubg 0ply overestimating
the equity of the player on roll, but I still found it interesting.

I thought it had to do with a poor volatility estimation, rather than a problem with the absolute equity.

2-ply "sees" the real volatility; it seems like 0-ply on average overestimates this volatilty by quite a bit. Maybe this could actually be improved quite easily?

Of course the question is if you change 0-ply cube behaviour, how will it affect 2-ply cube behaviour?
