I can't reproduce the problem. I can see some error messages from ESD,
can you try with gnubg -q? Also, can you try with gnubg -t?

Can you try with an earlier version of gnubg, e.g., 

cvs checkout -D 2004-04-01 -d gnubg-april gnubg
