Indeed it works for some letters. Obviously I tried the occupied ones
only.
E.g. Alt-I or Alt-O do work. Alt-S or Alt-W do not, because they are
already reserved by the top level menues Settings and Windows. (The
underlined letters in the source. And I suppose with this it's also
language dependant.) I assume the GTK+ message handling eats up those
key presses and doesn't forward them to create a new shortcut.
