I think he has in mind something like Chessmaster, which has just such a
function. However, the only reason is that it then prints a Certificate
of Victory over Chessmaster if you beat it under these conditions (no
takebacks, hints, etc.). The certificates look pretty cheesy too if you
ask me. :-)
Still, even so, beating GNU is far from impossible. Not because I'm
declaring any superhuman (supercyber?.... need more coffee) ability, but
because contrary to chess, there is a significant luck issue.

I'm not sure what you mean :-) It's up to the user not to use hint
during play -- I don't think we should make a setting where it's not
allowed.
