It's not a result-window :-) Any message written in gnubg is shown in
the status line unless it's multi-line. For example, pip count is shown
in the status line as it's just one line. After each game two lines are
written:

jth wins a single game and 1 point. 
The score (after 1 game) is: gnubg 0, jth 1 (money session, with Jacoby rule)

hence it's shown in a pop-up. 

As Øysteins says activating the message window will result in these two
lines being written to that window instead.

For self-play I really recommend using the command-line version since
updating the board etc may take considerable time. Also, you should "set
display off" to turn of updates of the board when it's the computer's
turn.
