I tired this and it works very well.  One question: Is there a way to see a
list of all keyboard shortcuts?

The program assumes I'm not stupid enough to inadvertently write over
previously assigned shortcuts, but unfortunately that's just not the case
:-)

It's absolutly very simple to add menu shortcut of GTK based software.

Do this:
Put the mouse pointer over the menu item you want a keyboard shortcut.
Don't click it, just highlite the item. While it is highlighted. Press the
key combination you want as a shortcut, and you will see that the shortcut
is added in the menu. The keybord shortcut is now ready to use.
