Aha, can you manually try changing it to

set matchequitytable "D:\GNU Backgammon for Windows\met\snowie.xml"

and check if that works?

Yep, that works! So, it's the double quotes that are missing?

I think the problem is the space in the path to the match equity table.
WHen the command "set met D:\GNU Backgammon for Windows\met\snowie.xml"
is executed gnubg only reads the first token of the argument, i.e.,
"D:\GNU", which is not a legal match equity table. You can simulate this
by entering the command "set matchequitytable D:\GNU Backgammon for
Windows\met\snowie.xml" in Edit->Enter Command. You'll get an error
message.

Would adding double quotes around the path help here too, then?
