I suggest updating to 3.1.8 (or even better, the version in CVS
gawk-stable from Savannah) and retrying. 3.1.6 is already several
years old. I don't think there were significant memory leaks, but I
also don't remember.
If you still see the problem, please talk to me off-list so that I
can get a sample of the program and data and see what the problem is.
