That is indeed preferable to the manual that I found. I suggest that
the "User and Community Support" tab in the gawk entry of the Free
Software Foundation Directory (http://directory.fsf.org/GNU/) link to
the manual you cited, rather than the one at web.mit.edu. Try as I
might, I couldn't find a link-path from www.gnu.org that led me to the
right manual.
