that's a rather limited 'text file'; then awk couldn't process eg b64-encoded
email msgs, which are pretty (human-)readable, albeit not readly 
understandable by most humans.

I'm not claiming that; an extension could be devised to let it do something
useful.
The point is that aborting the script on getline is, welI, pointless.
