$ awk 'BEGIN { print "hello, world" }'
To all who are interested in GNU Awk, a public, read-only CVS
archive of the gawk development code base is now available
from savannah.gnu.org. More information is available at
http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/gawk.
Like all Savannah projects, the sources can be checked out via anonymous
CVS. The module to use is "gawk-stable". This reflects my stable, or
"bug fix" tree, where I work on the next point release of gawk.
There will eventually be a "gawk-devel" module as well, which will serve
to document as much of the gawk release history as I have tarballs for,
and also to mirror the "next release" (i.e., new features) tree.
Because I don't have as much time to work on gawk as I would like,
I hope that the public CVS access will make life easier for those who
want or need to stay up to date with various gawk bug fixes.
PLEASE NOTE: Bug reports should continue to go to address@hidden Again,
for severe lack of time, I don't particularly intend to use all the
features available at Savannah for running a Free Software project.
Considerable thanks is due to Jim Meyering for sage advice, and to Karl
Berry and Bob Proulx for putting all the mechanics in place.
Enjoy,
Arnold Robbins
