Thanks for this report. It is hard to reproduce. Could you please tell
- on which platform you are experiencing this?
- which command-line options you gave to the "configure" script?
- what's the result of "grep -i getline gettext-tools/config.status" ?

Thanks for reporting this problem as well. If you rebuild the gettext
Makefile.ins with automake-1.9.6,
the problem should go away. (In the distribution they were built with
automake-1.9.5.)
