Hi,
I'm a `GAWK' user and I found an error in its manual page. It says that
the `IGNORECASE' variable does not affect the `asort()' function, but it
does. After setting it to 1, `asort()' sorts the array ignoring the case.
Here follows the manual page section that has the error:
IGNORECASE Controls the case-sensitivity of all regular expression and
string operations. If IGNORECASE has a non-zero value,
then string comparisons and pattern matching in rules,
field splitting with FS, record separating with RS, regular
expression matching with ~ and !~, and the gensub(),
gsub(), index(), match(), split(), and sub() built-in func-
tions all ignore case when doing regular expression opera-
tions. NOTE: Array subscripting is not affected, nor is
the asort() function.
I have made the tests using `RedHat Linux 9', and the `GAWK' version is:
$ awk --version
GNU Awk 3.1.1
