gettext problem under FreeBSD

Hi,
I don't understand why, i have some troubles with gettext under FreeBSD. When 
i try to translate message into accent language like spanish or french the 
accent are bad writen for example, when it need to write é, it writes 'e
etc.. i don't find why. I tried to convert UTF-8 string manually with iconv
and accents are good ! The problem seems come from gettext and i don't 
understand why and what i need to do..
Please help me..
