Well, I know for sure that gettext 0.12.1 has not propagated to testing,
there are two serious bugs filed (yours is one of them), and madison says so:

   gettext |  0.10.40-8 |       testing | source, alpha, arm, hppa, i386, ia64,
m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc
   gettext |   0.12.1-1 |      unstable | source, alpha, arm, hppa, i386, ia64,
m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc

Anyway, I don't like the idea of closing a bug just because you don't
reproduce it anymore under testing. For every thing there is a cause,
and we would like to know the cause for the bug you experienced.

If you could do a little bit of research, it would be great.
