It catches the case where there are no input files. This can happen
for example if the input files are empty. Try this with an unpatched
linker:
arm-elf-ar cq foo.a
arm-elf-ld -r -o foo.o foo.a

an interworking bfd if there are input bfds. (107501)
This patch is included in the 2.13 release.
