building grep 2.5

I tried to build this but I hit the following
error:

gcc -I/home/tpjb/poly4.1/src/include  -c  closeout.c
mv closeout.o closeout.o
mv: `closeout.o' and `closeout.o' are the same file
make[3]: *** [closeout.o] Error 1

Is this a known issue? Is there a source
modification I could do to get over this?
